The Foss Waterway Seaport is a Maritime Museum in the Museum district of Tacoma. It is housed in the restored and renovated Balfour Dock Building, an important piece of the history of the shipping industry that fueled early Tacoma. They aim to tell stories that celebrate the natural environment, the people of the region, maritime and boating history, commerce and trade, and unique stories of Tacoma.
The installation includes 14 paintings featuring Salish Sea critters, celebrating the marine life that lives in the waterway in which the museum sits, as well as in the Seaport’s touch aquariums. The piece was donated to the museum in January 2020. There are recreations of the piece including prints, postcards, and stickers sold exclusively in the museum shop.
